Inventively framed 1940s silkscreen reproduction of French master Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's 1893 poster commissioned by performer and friend Jane Avril for her cabaret show at the Jardin de Paris. The print features Avril kicking the cancan above a double bass player, with the reproduced signature and round hallmark of Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) near the bottom. This rare, hand-embellished print came from a folio of six silkscreen reproductions of Toulouse-Lautrec's posters depicting the lively Moulin Rouge nightlife, the prints individualized with silvery tracings and shading. The frame measures 15.5" W x 21.5" H x 2" D with an 11.5" x 12.5" image area under glass and a 9.5" x 12" top-mounted print.
