This is a type of silkscreen print called a collagraph, a specialty of American artist Peter Keefer. Titled Moonlight  XLIII, it is a western landscape featuring a long white road passing through a deep brown prairie toward taupe-colored mountains under a burlap sky. A white moon shines down on the scene. Fine cream lines outline the shapes and are slightly raised. The work is signed, titled and marked "AP" in pencil by the artist on the front. On the back this is written in pencil - Imprint Keefer "Moonlight XLIII" AP- $110. AP refers to its status as an Artist's Proof, which is an early print and could be used as a working trial. A raised, embossed stamp on the lower left reads "Spectrum Press". The piece is in good vintage condition - colors are vibrant. There is a slight crumple in the upper left corner. Please view all photos for more details.The print measures: 25.5" H x 19.5" W.  It is packaged in a protective plastic sleeve with foamcore and twine. The graphic designs of Peter Keefer (1933 - 2021) depict the land configurations and canyon colors of the Southwest U.S. Keefer received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1958, and a MA in Printmaking from Cal State Northridge in 1970. Early in his career he lived near Taos, NM, later moving to Montana. Mr. Keefer specialized in a type of printing called collagraph, which involves affixing materials of different textures and thicknesses to a plate, and then inking and hand-printing in the style of etching. Famous for his unique graphics and progressive printmaking techniques, Mr. Keefer's artwork is included in numerous private, corporate, and public collections both in the United States and abroad.
