Two hand-colored 1883 engravings from a book of a Spanish-themed, drawing-room publication of poems by the Countess of Blessington (Marguerite Gardiner), an acquaintance of Lord Byron. This was part of Gardiner's scarce "Gems of Beauty" series from 1836-1840. Twelve poems were illustrated by twelve steel-engraved plates of beautiful Spanish women and girls, with contributions from artists including E. H Corbould, H. Cook, and H. Robinson. Significant yellowed spotting in margins as shown, with fading on the green linen matting. Each black and gold wood frame has a few scuffs as shown and measures 11.5" W x 13.5" H x 1.25" D, with a 6.5" x 8.25" image area under glass. Please see all photos for more details.
