#77 • Antique Heavy Brass Heart Shaped Box with Hindu Deity

Part of Treasures of the Past & Present: Fine Art, Asian Antiques, Furniture & Rare Collectibles (timed auction by Lux Auctions)

High bid $16.00

Status: Sold

Weighty pierced footed brass box in the shape of a heart with a four armed Hindu deity adorning its middle. Several prominent Hindu deities are depicted with four arms. As it appears as if this deity has a beard it could be representing Brahma, who symbolizes knowledge and creation, or Vishnu who represents cosmic functions and divine attributes. In some interpretations, four arms symbolize the four directions of space or the four goals of human life (dharma, artha, kama and moksha). The box is beautifully decorated on the outside, with an unfinished inside. Some patina due to age, though it shows very little wear. Please see all photos for further detail. Measures 4"H x 6.75"L x 5"D.
